I am very proud to share with you the new McCullough Skylight Medallion. The Park-McCullough House in North Bennington, Vermont asked me to create a piece of jewelry for them.
I grew up in North Bennington, and spent my childhood playing on the grounds of the Park McCullough House, just a short distance from home. I was honored to be asked to create a piece of jewelry for the McCullough House Gift shop, and used the Mansion’s spectacular stained glass skylight as my inspiration. Like many North Bennington natives, the Mansion holds a such special place in our childhood memories. I remember gym class on the lawn, Easter egg hunts, road races, concerts, Christmas parties and weddings. The grounds of the house also hold special meaning—I spent hours swinging on the big swing on the porch of the mansion, and was lucky enough to ride my horses up into the “Mile Circle” loop—which now is a destination for many who seek a walk in the McCullough woods.
If you visit, plan ahead to allow time for a walk on the grounds, or to attend a concert or event in the Carriage Barn. I always dreamed of getting married at the mansion, and was lucky enough to have my wedding reception in the Carriage Barn (see pictures below). The staff give tours, and the rope barriers to “special rooms” have been taken away—which will allow one to roam the mansion and dream of a time when this house was hustling and bustling with family life. You must go to the top of the grand staircase to view the skylight—It is worth the walk!
The Tiffany-Style stained glass skylight is prominently on display above the grand staircase and was installed in 1890 during Lizzie McCullough’s major renovation project in preparation for US President Benjamin Harrison’s visit. It replaced a decorative embossed glass skylight that was built into the original 1865 design.
This skylight below will always be a lasting memory of time spent there. This unique medallion is available at the Park-McCullough Gift Shop, in Betsy’s retail store, and on this site!
